The Making

Of The Famous Hand Inlaid Game Table

This table is a result of one month and a half of craftsmanship. The process of making such table involves four  steps and six artists.

THE FIRST STEP is the carpentry, a work of two specialized carpenters, cutting the wood and shape it the way you see it now. The body of this table is all made of walnut wood. This step involves a lot of sanding, cutting and smoothing.

THE SECOND STEP is the actual inlay, a work of two specialized artists. It is one of the hardest and most elaborate wood work in the world. Each artist has at least 15 to 20 years of wood inlay experience. This step involves several sub steps from 1-choosing the geometrical patterns and designs 2-choosing the appropriate wood to use 3- sanding and treating the finished surface.  After the inlay part is finished, the artist would let the table rest for at least one week as a testing period to make sure there is no cracks or bumps.

THE THIRD STEP is the cutting and encrusting of the mother of pearl stones. This step requires a specialized shells and stones artist. This artist must cut the stones of mother of pearl very precisely to fit the spots left for them from the previous step. After this, sanding will take place again.

THE FOURTH STEP is the polishing step. This is actually one of the hardest steps, it is a work of one artist who would go over the surfaces by hand using a special cotton ball soaked with a special varnish to shine and seal all surfaces to become a weather and scratch resistant.

The whole process again will take one month and a half to produce this  beautiful piece.
